Endometriosis Clinic

We are women’s health GPs who have been on own learning journey since being selected by the Commonwealth Government to develop a focus on pelvic pain in our clinic.

We strive to be kind, honest and non-judgemental and we ask you to come in the knowledge that, while we are unlikely to be able to completely ‘cure’ all your pain, we have seen significant benefit in wellbeing and quality of life for those who work with us with an open-mind and willingness for change.

Who would benefit from attending the clinic?

  • People who suspect they may have endometriosis, including women who experience pain with their period that interferes with their day-to-day functions, and women who experience pain associated with sexual activity. However, you do not have to have a diagnosis of endometriosis to be seen.

  • Those who experience pelvic pain associated with bladder or bowel dysfunction, or from previous surgery or childbirth.

More about endometriosis

Endometriosis is a condition where there is the presence of endometrial tissue (the lining of the uterus) in areas outside the uterus. This commonly presents as painful periods (dysmenorrhoea) or issues with fertility but other symptoms can include bladder and bowel pain and pain during sex. It is estimated that endometriosis affects 1 in 9 women in Australia but diagnosis is often delayed or missed.

Endometriosis is probably the most common cause of pelvic pain but birth trauma, surgery and pelvic infections can all cause persistent pelvic pain. The approach to improving symptoms is similar regardless of the cause.

Our Clinic and You

We have designed a comprehensive and holistic consultation service for patients that involves a series of appointments over a 6-12 month period to help improve diagnosis, pain management, and function.

Your management plan will likely involve being referred to other providers such as women’s health physiotherapists, dietitians, psychologists and gynaecologists, depending on what your health needs are. We have developed professional relationships with many of these providers and will be able to refer you to clinicians with expertise in endometriosis and pelvic pain.

Our goal is to educate and empower women about this condition and to identify and understand their triggers. We will help you build relationships with allied health practitioners, and gain you the knowledge and confidence to manage your pain and flares with the help of your own GP and healthcare team.

Our service is a consultation service. Our doctors are not able to continue being your long-term GP.

Online education

For existing patients, we are running free online Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain education sessions in the evenings throughout the year.

Sessions will run every couple of months and each will focus on different areas of endometriosis care. Experienced pelvic physiotherapists, dietitians, gynaecologists and psychologists will give their insights and tips and you can post your own questions to be addressed in the session.

Sessions are co-hosted by one of our women’s health doctors and will allow time for questions. You are also welcome to submit questions via email before the sessions.

What to expect at your first Appointment

Your first appointment will take around 45-minutes.  This will involve history taking, reviewing previous test results and examination, this may include an internal examination. (This can be deferred if you are not comfortable with that.)

What to bring to your appointment

  • Any previous specialist letters operation reports e.g. laparoscopy, endoscopy/colonoscopy

  • Reports of any previous imaging you have had e.g. pelvic ultrasound

  • Recent blood test results and medication list, if appropriate

We also encourage you to come to your first appointment with some goals so that we can understand and focus on what is important to you. Two or three written goals is a great way to start.
